Have you ever noticed the crown on your Rolex? In fact, there are different symbols beside the crown. Take a glimpse at your Rolex and see if there is a line, two points, three points or nothing under the crown logo. Actually, these symbols represent different meanings. Let’s talk about one by one!
First of all, this logo represents the level of water resistance, and secondly, it shows the materials used. Take a look at your Rolex and there should be a Rolex crown logo on it.
Let’s talk about Cellini. There is nothing on the crown but a simple water resistance logo (see Figure 1), with a 50m water resistance function.
If there is a horizontal line, two dots or even only one dot on the crown, it means that your Rolex is double water resistant (see Figure 2), with a 100m waterproof function. For example, this double waterproof system is adopted in Oyster Perpetual, Explorer, Air King and Datejust collection.
If you want to know more about materials, take a look at the signs below (see Figure 3):
For instance, the line below the crown represents a stainless steel or steel-and-gold watch with double waterproof function. If it’s with two big dots and one small dot in the middle, it’s a triple waterproof platinum watch.
You may find the three dots under the crown, so what’s the meaning of the three dots? They actually represent the triple waterproof function. When you unscrew the crown, there will be a rubber edge trim on it, simulating the rubber trim edge in the cabin. What an impressive function! This will appear in three popular watches: Daytona, GMT and Submariner.
Here’s a little reminder for everyone. Although the watch is water resistant, please don’t bring along your Rolex to places with large temperature differences, such as baths and saunas. The large temperature differences will affect metal and other materials. It possibly leads to expansion or contraction, hence increases the risk of water entry.
